Bracha Goetz sprang awake-for the third time that night and headed for the bathroom. The 68-year-old had been suffering with nighttime urgenc_ for a few years. Just part of aging, she'd told herself. But not only was getting up and down all night annoying, the disrupted sleep left her groggy and tired during the day. This has to stop, she thought.
When she talked to her doctor, he suggested she try Kegel exercises which she did and still doesbut, unfortunately, she didn't see enough of an improvement in her nighttime bladder problem.
I can't live this way, Bracha thought, and began looking on her own for another solution. But Googling, she didn't find anything new to try. Everything she read reiterated what her doctor had told her: It was part of the aging process and Kegels should help alleviate the problem.
