El reporte anual The Global Competitiveness Report 2016-2017 elaborado por el Foro Económico Mundial, ubicó a la economía mexicana en la posición 51 de entre 138 países en competitividad; si solo consideramos infraestructura somos el número 57, pero si ponemos la lente en la calidad de este sector el país cae a la posición 69.

Al cierre de 2014, la información de las firmas especializadas indicaba que este sector contaba con entre 1 y 1.1 millones de m2 en construcción. Tan sólo seis meses después, los reportes revelan que hay 2.1 millones de m2 en pleno desarrollo y que aproximadamente 60 centros comerciales están en construcción.
