Welcome to the summer issue. May/June is timed to when the days get long and warm and all things outdoors make sense. So we hit up the first Drew Estate Barn Smoker of the year at a tobacco farm outside of Orlando, Florida. From there we take you to New Orleans for a taste of cigars, golf and food in and around this fabled city’s French Quarter. You’ll also get a very readable lesson in Irish whiskey, complete with some help in pairing with the best cigar, and some tips for reasonably priced smokes in these inflationary times. Our photo shoot has a Black Swan theme, and finally, we have events and more events. Time to sit back and unwind, summertime.

While you were still taking in summer drinks and mellow smokes, we were toiling with cask-finished Scotch, walking the streets of the Windy City, hitting the links of the Great Northwest and dodging Gila Monsters. Okay, we enjoy our work and hopefully, it shows. So this new issue features some fine tasting whiskies, paired with the right cigar, a travelogue out of Chicago with a True Crime tilt and plenty of smoking tips, a golf travel saga full of adventure out of Inland Northwest, and a photo shoot from Arizona. All this and the usual good stuff, including ratings and a full house of events from around the U.S.

Naw, not really, we’ve got more game than that. Start with a couple of Perfect Pairings, move on to some casino cigar lounges - - go-to spots in any season – and into our feature profile of Michelle Dowd, who chronicles her adolescence as a cult member in a memoir, “Forager.” We learn about living off the land, life in a cult and how cigars came into her life. We also give you the lowdown on generational cigar bans, which started in the U.S. and are on the move internationally. All this and the usual more, which includes a packed events section, a stunning pictorial and expert cigar ratings. 

We greet the new season with big shots of cigar fun in our new issue. Joe Pistone was an FBI agent who became Donnie Brasco to infiltrate organized crime, wrote books and most famously, became the main character in a Hollywood blockbuster. Inevitably, he likes a good cigar. Boxer Robeisy Ramírez came out of Cuba, captured the world featherweight title and now tells his story of leaving Cuba and how cigars are integral to his planning sessions. A history lesson on cask finished Scotch also gives you some ideas on which cigars to match with which spirits. Mob informants, brown liquor and boxing champs. Bring on summer. 

Here in your mitts is another blast of cigar fun. For this issue, we crossed the Atlantic, traveled to tropical islands and spent some treasured time with a real cigar pro to get his worldly story, all for you. And we can't think of a better reason. In pursuit of the treasured leaf, we're pretty relentless, and the Big Reward is getting the message to our faithful readers. Also in this issue, we gather some gift ideas for the upcoming season -- mom's day, dad's day, whatever you think, along with ratings and another stunning photo shoot.

In the spirit of the thoroughbred season, we deliver a piece on the legendary Gulfstream Park in South Florida, then celebrate 20 years of Rocky Patel’s The Edge with some history of the well-regarded smoke. We also visit the ProCigar Festival 2023 in the Dominican Republic and give you the day-by-day in case you’re pondering a trip next year. The second issue of 2023 takes you places. You start the journey in Honduras, where we visit Oscar Valladares to hear his fascinating saga, starting as a tourism student all the way to founding his own cigar company. We make a call to Emmy-winning television foodie Guy Fieri to talk about how his Knuckle Sandwich cigar is representing a whole new style of flavortown. Then we check in with some of our cigar friends in southwest Florida, where they are recovering from last fall’s Hurricane Ian with their heads held high. That plus all the usual goodness, including events and pairings, makes this issue the place to be.

Our March/April issue is all about tropical island warmth. We head to the Caribbean for a double-barreled photo shoot, one set on white-sanded beaches and another in the cozy coves and lagoons of the islands. The visuals are accompanied by a travel narrative that sets the pace for any visit to Curacao, a spot that packs plenty to do on its 170 square miles. We also visit with Richard Seale, whose Foursquare rum distillery on the island of Barbados is a destination for those with a taste for the real deal. Back to the mainland, we break down the latest report from the feds on premium cigar regulation, and it’s encouraging. Events keep picking up, and among the photos of people smoking and getting out, we provide a full account of this year’s ProCigar Festival in the DR. We give you rum, beaches, smokes and more.
