In the mid to late ’50s, Bakersfield was put on the map by successful country artists such as Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. They created what became known as the “Bakersfield Sound” and became a musical incarnation carried on by others such as John Fogerty, Grateful Dead, and Credence Clearwater Revival just to name a few.
