Many legendary quotes can be attributed to celebrities describing the appeal of golf. Take Samuel L. Jackson, for example, who told the news paper FAZ: “Golf is like life itself. You will never be perfect, but you can keep improving.” Or Jack Lemmon, who once quipped: “If you think it’s hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.”
Golfers are a special breed. This was true as early as the late 19th century, when small, elite circles spent summers cultivating the sport on courses in places like Bad Homburg and BadenBaden, Germany. Until 1970, golf remained a highly exclusive sport. It has since advanced to become a lifestyle, with over 600,000 passionate putters in Germany today.
