Stress ! a commonly used word today prevalent in every life, it affects our mental and physical health both in corporate as well as personal life. While few organizations take active steps to reduce or release stress levels of its employees, a lot depends on the individuals themselves.
While we may not have absolute control over certain factors causing stress, lets take a step backwards to see how its caused and what are few steps we can take to deal with it.
Everyone who has ever held a job has, at some point, felt the pressure of work related stress. Any job can have stressful elements, even if you love what you do. So its important to acknowledge and address it. We have seen that in the short-term, people experience the pressure to meet deadlines, manage irate clients, deal with hostile situations etc. But when work stress becomes a recurring problem, it becomes painful to an extend of people suffering anxiety and even nervous breakdowns.
Some common causes of stress at work can be
Excessive workload / long work-hours.
Crazy deadlines for work completion.
Low salaries.
No growth potential or stagnation in the current role.
Not feeling valued at work.
Lack of social support or un-conducive environment.
Not having enough control over decisions impacting your areas of control or responsibility.
Erratic work schedules including weekend.
Lack of regular sleep.
