Bling is a slang term popularized in hip hop culture, referring to flashy, ostentatious, or elaborate jewellery and ornamented accessories that are carried, worn, or installed, such as cell phones or tooth caps.
In linguistics terms, bling is either an ideophone or an onomatopoeia, depending on the definition adhered to, intended to evoke the “sound” of light hitting something shiny, especially valuables like silver,platinum, or diamonds. The last few seasons haven’t been short on glitz, but instead of sparkling watch faces or diamond tennis bracelets, magpie fix has been largely satisfied by embellishment on clothes, not bodies - be that coat lapels, dazzling heels (or sandals), sweaters and jeans.
Bling up your basics for glamour
That’s all about to change come springtime, however, as a heavy frosting of diamond, crystal or very good costume jewellery is set to make a serious comeback. While we’ve been dazzled by the recent array of redcarpet jewels, this trend is about wearing ornate, heirloom pieces with straightforward, casual outfits. Wear with a candy - hued knit - For a homely knit-plus-bling look which means you don’t need an “occasion” to sport your favourite gleaming jewels. Opt for a candy-hued fuzzy sweater and contrast with icy oversized jewellery.
