He’s humble, handsome and currently starring in Netflix’s Jessica Jones—meet the talented Australian Actor who’s taking success (and styling mistakes) in his stride.
Some people appear to have it all: fulfilling work, a supportive partner, adorable kids and an unpretentious outlook. Oh, and one of these fortunate few also looks like Eka Darville. Throw in his big break on Power Rangers R.P.M., roles in The Originals and Empire and a star turn on Netflix’s Marvel series Jessica Jones, and this Byron Bay-bred actor is living a charmed life. He’s now based in Los Angeles and it’s impossible to begrudge the 28-year-old Aussie, who is talented, gracious and wickedly self-deprecating.
INSTYLE: There’s a bit of an Aussie mafia in LA, right?EKA DARVILLE: Yeah, but it’s not quite as cool as the Mafia, I’m afraid.
Probably far less threatening, too. It’s more like flat whites… And avocado toast! Do you think being Australian influences your style? Absolutely. I’m from Byron Bay, so I grew up with beach culture as the only common denominator between everyone—kind of breezy, light fabrics—and I wear a tonne of what they call tank tops here but that we all know are actually singlets. I get around in flip-flops way more than…I called them flip-flops, see that?
You can’t say thongs there…
You cannot—you just can’t! I’ve definitely got the beach culture [look] in terms of my general getting-around clothes. That and also my relationship with the Australian designers I like and support.
Can you describe your personal style?
Eclectic, military and, I guess, daring. And ethnic—I actually sew traditional tribal cloth, from Third World countries I’ve visited, into a lot of the clothes I wear.
That’s a unique mix; it sounds like you’re not afraid to take risks.
