Dead Vlei, Namibia / Dead Vlei, Namibia

Known as the “dead valley”, this place attracts professional photographers from all over the world who capture images that resemble oil paintings. The vividly colorful landscapes create this illusion, even in places like “the tree cemetery”, where thousand-year old Acacia trees are preserved amongst the redish sand dunes. A lake used to provide the trees with nourishment, yet exposure to high levels of minerals, and the intense heat of the sun, ultimately dried it up.
