A new chapter begins as the Jigger & Pony Group relaunches Sugarhall, its cult rum-focused cocktail pub, after a four-year hiatus. Tucked away on the second level of a 1920s heritage building near Raffles Place, Sugarhall has re-emerged with a warmer and more approachable atmosphere while retaining the feel-good energy and a dedicated passion for rum.
A Speakeasy In The Business District
From the direction of Raffles Place, go past Rosemead, turn the corner into the nondescript alley (do watch out for cars here), and you will see the original Amoy Street signage. It clues you towards a concealed flight of stairs, which leads up to an open hall reminiscent of bustling English-style neighbourhood pubs. Inside, dark wood furnishings are countered by breezy fairy lights, walls are dressed with framed photographs, while pillars are left exposed for a distressed look that pays tribute to the building's age and heritage.
Together with a backdrop of upbeat music, ranging from funk to reggae and ska, Sugarhall makes a cosy hideout for post-work drinks and get-togethers, now possible with more relaxed dining and socialising rules. Within this nostalgic outfit of a classic pub, bar operations manager Davide Boncimino and principal bartender Sam Loh present a rediscovery of classics for rum connoisseurs, across the cocktail spectrum defined by feature rums and spirits. If you are a rum newbie, don't worry. These passionate gentlemen are only too happy to share all they know about enjoying rum with you.
