Diageo works with WaterAid Myanmar to bring about lasting water security for the country’s peri-urban and rural communities. We’ll drink to that

Water For Life

It’s crazy to think anyone would consider a mask mandate in the milieu of a pandemic to be an infringement on their liberty, while there exists segments of humanity that still struggle to get access to safe drinking water, let alone being able to wash their hands frequently enough to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

According to data gathered by WaterAid, 785 million people in the world – that’s roughly one in 10 – do not have clean water in their homes. Two billion people globally – or one in four – do not have a decent toilet of their own. And some 310,000 children under the age of five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. That is more than 800 children a day, or a child perishing every two minutes.

It is in response to such grim statistics that Diageo, a global leader in beverage alcohol, is working with WorldAid to provide clean water in Myanmar communities. This marks Diageo’s largest single investment in a sustainability initiative in Southeast Asia, and underpins its commitment to delivering long-term positive social impact.
