THIS MONTH: Legendary skipper of Weymouth boat, Flamer IV, Colin Penny.
As of this year I’m celebrating 22 years as a full-time charter skipper out of Weymouth, having got my ticket in April 1995.
It was the skipper of the original Flamer, Sam Fowler, who encouraged me to get my qualifications, and when he retired I bought the boat from him.
Keeping with tradition the name was kept, and has remained through all my boats. I’m now on Flamer IV, which is a Pro Charter P4 and was built six years ago. She is powered by a 450hp turbocharged CAT diesel engine and has a very good cruising speed of 14 knots.
