Further delay in decision making could be detrimental to the party’s goal to rejuvenate its prospects in the State Assembly elections.
It is revealed in a private conversation by a senior leader of Congress Party that Priyanka Gandhi had a long meeting with new in-charge General Secretary of AICC Gulam Nabi Azad wherein she has humbly accepted the wishes of party cadre to play bigger role in the forthcoming UP elections in 2017. The formal announcement would be made after a family get-together once Rahul Gandhi returns from abroad. Meanwhile, Sheila Dikshit also dragged her feet back as she had no support from state congress leaders.
Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi are in a fix to react positively to the suggestion of poll strategist Prashant Kishor (PK) to project Priyanka Gandhi or Sheila Dikshit as its chief ministerial face in forthcoming UP assembly elections. However, the prominent UP Congress leaders are unanimous in favour of the projection of Priyanka but they expressed strong reservations on the other suggested Brahmin face of former chief minister of Delhi.
The general anxiety among Congress workers is coming out of their hearts openly as they feel that delay in decision making could be detrimental to the party’s interests for rejuvenating its prospects. After holding a series of meetings at various level of the party organisation in UP, the expectation of Congress workers from its leadership had already been conveyed by PK to launch Priyanka Gandhi as their star campaigner and a chief ministerial face to resurrect the prospects of the party in the state that had deep roots of party’s struggle in the freedom movement with the glorious role of the Nehru Gandhi family.
