The right hair colour can make or break your look. So, if you’re planning for a change, why not pick a colour that suits you best, since what suits one person may not be suitable for another. It is important to consider factors like natural hair colour, skin colour, skin undertone and personality type before picking. Take a look at our guide.
GO BY SKIN UNDERTONE
The melanin in the skin is responsible for the colour of the hair, eyes, and skin. The variations in the amount of melanin in the body, its distribution, shape and size that gives us all different skin tones. While the best hair colour match can enhance your appearance, a bad match between skin and hair colour can ruin the entire look and can make you look unnatural. What may look good on caucasian women might not look good on Indian women. While your skin tone might be dark, fair, or wheatish, the skin undertone will be either warm or cool.
A simple trick to finding your skin undertone is: if you turn red under the sun, then yours is a cool tone. If you tan, then it is a warm skin undertone. Another way to check your correct skin undertone is to look at your wrist closely in normal sunlight. If the veins look green, you are warm-toned. If they look blue, you are cool-toned. At times, you cannot tell whether the veins are blue or green. In that case, you may have a neutral skin undertone, which gives you an olive complexion, just like Jennifer Lopez!
If you have a warm skin undertone, the best hair colours for you are deep rich browns like chocolate, chestnut or auburn as a base, rich golden browns and highlights with warm golds and reds or copper. Avoid blue, violet, white and jet black. These hair colours can make you look washed out.
