As more and more of us take on a second job, we speak to two women who love keeping busy...
‘I’m busy every day!’
Vicky Sewell, 51, lives with her partner, Adam, in Norfolk. She has twin daughters, amy and Libby, 24.
Not so long ago, if you’d asked me to bake a cake, I’d have burst out laughing. My twin daughters, Amy and Libby, were 12 when they began comparing me to Mrs Cropley – the awful cook from The Vicar Of Dibley.
Despite working full time in business development, I tried my best. Every evening, I’d cook meals from scratch, but my spaghetti bolognese would be tasteless and my risotto resembled soup. I’d even end up sending the girls to school with soggy ham sandwiches.
And then, in January 2014, having always been an animal lover, I decided to go vegan. But struggling to find vegan treats in the supermarket, I had no choice but to make some myself.
After a few failed attempts, I managed to whip up some vegan brownies. I expected them to be inedible, but I was amazed when they actually tasted pretty good. Even my partner, Adam – and the girls – approved.
So, I began baking more and in December 2015, I sold my bakes at my local Christmas craft fair. I named my stand ‘Mrs Cropley’s Kitchen,’ inspired by the twins’ nickname.
