Amid the ever-changing trends and mass-produced commodities that dominate consumer culture, there exists a growing community where the ethos of upcycling reigns supreme. Within this community, three creative ateliers stand as beacons, illuminating the path toward a more sustainable and conscious future."
As we talked to these shops that pride themselves on helping discarded treasures find redemption, we uncovered not only fine craftsmanship but also a profound philosophy, one that challenges people to look at the environment with purpose and grace. Indeed, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
RESURRECTION FURNITURE
Resurrection Furniture is the brainchild of Binggoy De Ocampo and Leah Sanchez, former classmates at the University of the Philippines College of Architecture.
This creative atelier emerged from their shared desire to unleash their untamed creativity and breathe fresh life into designs that are stifled by the constraints of their regular work.
Their journey took a serendipitous turn when they crossed paths with Arlene Barbaza, who eventually became their partner in their transformative endeavor.
When it comes to their selection process, Resurrection Furniture follows a path-less-traveled as they favor a more intuitive approach. Instead of meticulously seeking out pieces, the discarded treasures always seem to find their way to their atelier-an organic connection that fuels their passion for transformation.
"More often than not, the discarded items 'call out' to us," Barbaza tells MEGA. "The eureka moment often comes only after a back and forth of ideas or after we've let an idea sit for a while. An item can even sit in storage for some time before we come up with ways to repurpose it."
