Padel was said to have originated in Mexico sometime in the 1960s. In the Philippines, the Philippine Padel Association was founded by 26-year-old engineer Alenna Dawn, who is also the chief executive officer and co-founder of the Manila Padel Club at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City. Dawn also founded the Women's Padel Association in Manila.
The idea to bring Padel to the Philippines was formed during the pandemic, when Dawn's Swedish partner Fredrik Lonnqvist got stuck in Sweden, then Spain, because of the lockdowns.
