SAM SHEPPEY LOOKS AT HOW ENGLAND HAVE FARED AGAINST THEIR UPCOMING EURO 2024 FOES IN THE PAST
GROUP GAMES

ENGLAND are tipped as one of the favourites going into the European Championships and are therefore predicted by most to progress through the group stage. The last time England failed to progress through the Euro groups was in 2000, when Ionel Ganea’s 89th-minute penalty saw Romania beat England 3-2, sending Kevin Keegan’s men down to third in the group and out of the tournament.

The Three Lions qualified for Euro 2000 through the play-offs, having only won once in six qualifying games. This meant England were placed in a group with Romania as well as European giants Germany and Portugal.

Everyone knows about the shortfalls of England teams gone by, but the current crop find qualifying for major tournaments a much easier task.

During the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, England topped their group by going unbeaten with 20 points from eight games.

Qualifying as a top seed, the Three Lions find themselves in a group with Serbia, Slovenia and Denmark. One of these teams is an unfamiliar foe, one England has never lost to and one will be looking for revenge.

So here’s a look at the history of all three nations against England:

England vs Denmark

The last time these two nations met was in the semi-finals of Euro 2020. A memory that lives long in the minds of England fans, but haunts the heads of Denmark fans.
