CRITICS sounded a “red alert” for America after Donald Trump chose one of his devoted followers as the country’s top law officer.
Florida congressman Matt Gaetz will be attorney general when Trump returns to power in January.
The move raised fears of the Justice Department being weaponised to seek revenge on Trump’s opponents.
Democrat senator Chris Murphy said: “Gaetz has openly called for the abolition of law enforcement agencies if they don’t align with conservative priorities.
“This is a red alert moment for American democracy,” he added.
Republican colleague Lisa Murkowski added: “I don’t think it’s a serious nomination.
