BOFFINS’ plans to revolutionise contraception by heating up men’s testicles has failed to get £1million worth of backing. Niklas Grohs and Rolf Tobisch say their Cocoon device heats up men’s testes to 41.4C before sex, paralysing their sperm. The pair launched it on Germany’s version of telly show Dragons’ Den to the baffled reactions of potential investors. Images of the prototype make it look like some sort of eye- watering torture device. Two egg-shaped clamps held together with nuts and bolts appear to contain heating elements like an electric sandwich toaster. When they’re fixed around the wearer’s testes and plugged in, a current heats them up. The inventors billed it as “a worldwide sensation for the contraceptive market” and said human trials on four subjects have had a 100% success rate. But all four Dragons turned down the chance to secure a 25% stake in the business. Grohs said after the show: “That doesn’t mean that we stop now. On the contrary.”
