A 5G phone mast was destroyed after it burst into flames on a main road in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Probe launched into blaze that destroyed 5G mast

The mast on Manchester Road in Ashton-under-Lyne set alight at around 4am Fire crews raced to the scene, as police officers also descended on the main road.

A stretch of the road was closed off as firefighters extinguished the blaze. An investigation into what caused the 15 metre-high mast to burst into flames is now under way.
