THE region's MPs have spoken out over the decision to remove the £50 government contribution to South West Water customers, which is set to be moved from April next year.
Introduced in 2013, the subsidy was introduced when water bills in the South West were much higher than the average bill elsewhere in the country.
However, the government defended the move by pointing to Ofwat estimates that by 2029, SWW bills will be cheaper than a number of other regions in the country.
Rebecca Smith, MP for South West Devon, last week urged the Labour Government to reconsider axing the £50 rebate in an Oral Question to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Steve Reed.
