The Backbone of Success

In the realm of sports, the unwavering support of a mother often serves as the bedrock upon which the dreams of her daughter are built. Despite facing opposition from other male members of the family, mothers continue to stand as steadfast pillars of encouragement and belief in their daughters’ athletic pursuits. This unyielding support is exemplified in the journey of international medallist, Himanshi Tokas, whose exceptional career in Judo is a testament to the resilience and determination instilled by her mother, Renu.

Hailing from Munirka, Delhi, Himanshi has carved a path of triumph in the world of Judo, securing consecutive gold medals at the international level last year. Her accolades extend to national and state-level competitions, showcasing her prowess and dedication to the sport. Despite her stellar achievements, Himanshi’s journey has been fraught with challenges, including the disappointment of being unable to compete in prestigious events such as the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and the Asian Games in 2023 due to logistical constraints imposed by organisers.

The journey

However, Himanshi's response to adversity is emblematic of her sporting spirit and resilience. Throughout her career, she has faced criticism and setbacks with unwavering determination, embodying the ethos of sportsmanship. Her journey began at the tender age of nine when she embarked on her Judo training at a local academy. Despite initial success, a period of drought followed, compounded by an injury near her eyes during training. Amidst doubts and uncertainties, the voices of discouragement grew louder, with many suggesting that Judo was not meant to be a part of her life.
