Grice played his 500th and final game for Leek, bringing a remarkable 13-year spell at the club to a close a testament to his loyalty that is increasingly rare in football.
Not only did Grice set the record for appearances, but he is also Leek's all-time leading goal scorer, netting an impressive 250 goals - a strike rate of one goal every two games.
The script could have been perfect, with Grice on the brink of scoring his 251st goal in the 90th minute. Clean through on goal, he was thwarted by visiting keeper Hunter, who forced him wide, denying what would have been a fairytale ending.
