DK'S DONUTS & BAKERY
The 2020 documentary The Donut King spotlighted how the Cambodian immigrant community played a role in the development of southern California's doughnut shops: about 80 percent are Cambodian-owned.
DK's is part of that story. Founded in 1981 by Kong and Chuong Lee, refugees who escaped the Khmer Rouge, this Santa Monica staple is famous for its croissant-doughnut hybrid. The Ube doughnut, with purple cream cheese, toasted coconut, bacon, and pistachio, is another standout.
RANDY'S DONUTS
There's no mistaking this icon, which can be seen half a mile away thanks to the giant sign that crowns its Inglewood flagship. (There are 12 locations in the state.) Since 1952, Randy's has focused on classics, like cinnamon crumb cake, glazed, and jelly-filled.
