“Where did you guys meet?”
“At a petrol kiosk,” said Kimberly Wang, a radio DJ, and personality at 98.7FM, with a straight face. “I’m totally kidding.” she laughed.
Sitting beside each other as they got their hair and makeup done, Shane Pow, actor and one of Singapore’s Eight Dukes, glances over at Kimberly and smiles fondly before answering on her behalf. They first met at a drum lesson in preparation for the President’s Star Charity in 2015.
As they gushed over their travels and laughed over how forgetful they both are when it comes to celebrating their anniversaries, it becomes apparent that they are not only lovers, but also best friends, and that was how their romance started.
While Kimberly didn’t have much of an impression of Shane when they first met, he thought that she was endearingly bubbly. The more he talked to her, the more he realized he could relate and connect with her. Soon, he was dropping by her radio station looking for opportunities to hang out, which she only found out were “dates” when he mentioned so in another interview after they got together! Gradually, they grew comfortable with each other, and their friendship blossomed into something more.
“She’s very real, a very easy person to talk to, and our personalities are complementary,” he mused. Reaching out to hold his hand in hers, Kimberly chimed in. “He’s a very calm person, while I’m very reactive. He teaches me how to be a little calmer, and I teach him how to express his passions and feelings better!”
