Chloë Grace Moretz has gone from child star to fierce, feminist fashionista. She tells Monica Corcoran Harel how she did it.
'WHOA! It looks so different now. This is really weird,’ whispers Chloë Grace Moretz, as we stand in front of her former childhood home in Beverly Hills on a warm, starry night. The actress, 19, squints at the stately but fairly modest Spanish-style house and shakes her long buttery-blonde hair. Hmm. Something’s not right. She suddenly jogs off in her scuffed, checkered Vans trainers, leaving me to wonder if she’s overcome with emotion or trying to work off the pizza we just ate for dinner. A moment later, Moretz – who looks suspiciously like a chic cat burglar tonight in her black J Brand skinny jeans and Saint Laurent leather motorcycle jacket – shouts to me from down the block, ‘Hey, that’s the wrong house! It’s over here.’
You can’t fault one of the coolest, most bankable and outspoken young actresses in Hollywood for the mix-up. After all, it’s been a decade since she lived on this quiet, treelined street and, since then, she’s moved to a $3.4 million house in Studio City with its own waterfall, and racked up more than 40 film and TV credits, working alongside the likes of Julianne Moore and Johnny Depp. Still, she couldn’t be more thoughtful, upbeat and chilled out in person. She even greeted me with a handshake and a hug.
