With her love of retro clothes and a heritage in punk music (her dad is the filmmaker Julien Temple, who made videos for bands including The Sex Pistols) it’s no surprise that Juno Temple has an obsession with the 70s. Here the actress showcases Dior’s Cruise 2017 collection at Blenheim Palace and we talk fancy dress, frilly knickers and her fairy-tale life
I’ve always had an eclectic dress sense. As a teenager I used to shop in Oxfam and wear stuff from my fancy dress box. I’ve always bought things and customised them. I hate the idea of seeing someone wearing the same thing. I have a navy vintage Christian Dior blazer that is so beautiful, but it’s very simple, so I got a BeDazzler and on the back wrote the words ‘Fuck off’ and it looks so great! I’m such a strong believer that you shouldn’t wear one designer head-to-toe; always mix and match. And when you have nice things, you should wear them until they fall apart.
Dior is so timeless. You immediately feel sophisticated when you put on a Dior piece. Even though this collection is so modern, the label itself is really classic. It really makes me think of being a lady, sitting with your ankles crossed over, no legs open!
My mum got me into vintage, but she is classier than I am. Her skirts are a little longer, her jeans are a little looser. I’ve stolen a few pieces from her. My godmother, a stylist called Scarlett King, has the most incredible vintage pieces of Biba, Edwardian pieces, beautiful silk slips. She used to style me when I was going to school parties; I went to boarding school and I used to stay with her at weekends. What I love about both of them is that they’re never entirely put together. I hate a really finished look. You should never look like you just walked out of a make-up room unless you’re playing a part. I think it’s better to look like you’ve been rolling around in bed for a little while.
