Mr. And Mrs. Trudeau

Sidra Sheikh
Canada's First Couple

Long before they became leaders, this couple has always been a Canadian favourite.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau have always played an active role in many aspects of Canadian society. Prior to becoming “the first couple”, the pair was involved in not only the political scene, but in many others including the Canadian entertainment and social life, numerous charities and non-profit organizations, religious inclusivity, women’s rights and much more. This behaviour along with the couple’s personal relationship continues to set an example for all Canadians to be better and move towards becoming a loving and welcoming country.

In fact, the two reconnected when they co-hosted a fundraising event in 2003. Despite having known each other since childhood (Sophie and Justin’s youngest brother were friends and classmates), the pair did not connect romantically until they went out following the event they co-hosted.

However, once they did go out – the one date was all they needed according to what Justin told MacLean’s in an interview about how they met. “I looked at her and I just felt this strength and peace come over me and I said, ‘Well, it’s about time you arrived. It’s been 32 years and I was beginning to think you would never show up. I’ve been waiting for you all my life. You’re it!’ I knew it right then and I announced to her that we would be spending the rest of our lives together.” He wasn’t kidding, a year later he proposed and another year later they were married. Presently, the couple is happily married with three kids, Ella-Grace, Xavier and Hadrien.

UNTTLD (Simon Belanger)
SHE Canada Magazine

UNTTLD (Simon Belanger)

Luxurious, domineering, and vibrant – three words that solidly define UNTTLD’s incredible showcase of their F/W 2018 collection at Toronto Fashion Week. Adorned with black headdresses (or hats), the models that graced Yorkville Village’s runway flaunted boldcoloured velvet dresses and boss-lady outfits. Since 2011, designer duo Simon Belanger and Jose Manuel Jacques have been creating lux pieces that reflect on masculine feminity to emphasize the capabilities and desires of the modern woman. We had the opportunity to speak to Simon shortly after the show about their one-of-a-kind collection that is truly one to reminisce.
