Wearing proper footwear is one of the important aspects of daily life where people tend to pay very little attention.
Most of the pain that people have throughout the day such as back pain, shin splints, knee pain and wide range of foot pains may directly or indirectly be associated with their footwear. Almost every single individual has experienced some kind of pain mostly foot pain due to their bad, ill fitted shoes. That’s why your feet not only need to be covered to look good, but they also need to be covered with good footwear. Good footwear meaning which are comfortable, safe and protective for your feet.
Providing balance, stability and support, allowing right amount of motion, and shock absorption are varieties of functions carried out by footwear. Additionally they balance out your feet and align them with the rest of body which helps to carry out all your daily tasks. So footwears have many responsibilities.
Understanding the structure of the foot may help to understand the need of proper footwear. The human feet are made up with different type of bones, joints and soft tissues (ligaments, tendons, muscles, fascias, etc.) and this allows feet to work as flexible as well as stable unit during all your activities. In fact the feet are the only part of the human body which connects body to the ground. They carry entire body weight and helps in moving from place to place throughout day.
Whether you stand, walk or run, every single weight bearing task creates different amount of forces on your feet. In return they also absorb the reaction forces imposed on your body from the ground. Now, here the footwear plays a major role. If your footwear has shock absorption quality sole, it can actually reduce the amount of forces by acting as a cushion between your feet and ground. And if opposite is the case you need to worry a lot because it is going to create many structural and functional problems in your feet and other body parts.
