DJ HappyGal gives the turn tables a break as she prepares to welcome her little one
Just this past October, our cover star, Thuledu Happiness Ndlovu, also known as DJ HappyGal, married her partner in a traditional ceremony surrounded by friends and family in Empangeni, KwaZulu Natal. With the sun shining brightly on the couple, a wedding wasn’t the only highlight of the year. Soon, their home will be filled with sweet murmurs of a little baby, the best blessing and perfect gift to ring in the New Year. With her due date closing in, Mamas & Papas magazine got a chance to sit down and talk to the house and kwaito DJ/mom to-be about life away from the turn tables, and her pregnancy journey.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Happiness grew up in a big, happy family. From her father’s side, she tells us that she has more than thirty siblings, while from her mother’s side, there is six of them and she is the oldest. Though the household was loud with joyous laughter, she melancholy admits that her family was very disadvantaged. Living in her mother’s two room house, with her unemployed mother, there would be days where they had to go as far as asking their neighbours for whatever food they could share, if her father wasn’t able to bring food home.
However, this curve on her road was building her up. “This kind of upbringing taught me how to be strong, and how to live with people. I learned how to be respectful, and how one should never look down on other people,” she says about her childhood. Though they were faced with a lot of hardships, she insists that she wouldn’t change anything about the life she lived growing up, saying that it made her strong, and her determination to change her life and that of her siblings only grew strong. And with God’s grace she did exactly that!
