Back in 2016, Sheridan Smith was making headlines for allegedly drinking and missing performances of the stage musical Funny Girl – in which she was playing the lead, Fanny Brice.

One show had to be abandoned because of what the audience was told were ‘technical difficulties’, and Graham Norton joked about it at the BAFTAs that year, saying, ‘We’re all excited for a couple of drinks tonight. Or, as it’s known in theatrical circles, a few glasses of technical difficulties.’
