‘I still have to BATTLE TO RELAX'

She’s played feisty, outspoken landlady Liz McDonald on Corrie for three decades but, in real life, Beverley Callard couldn’t be further from her soap alter-ego.

The 63-year-old actress revealed bravely last year that she’d been suffering with clinical depression since 2009, which she believes was triggered by the menopause.

Thankfully, she’s in a much better place now, as she tells Woman’s Own, although she admits she still suffers with ‘low self-esteem’.

As she tells us all about her upcoming role in stage show The Thunder Girls, Bev reveals why she’s leaving the Street, with her last scenes due to air later this year.*

Bev, you look amazing! What’s your secret?

I think, mentally, I’m still 16 unfortunately. But I don’t particularly battle to keep looking young. If I’m not at work or going out, I don’t have any make-up on at all. I drink loads of water, just because I know it’s good for me, and my husband, Jon McEwan, and I eat really healthily.
