There are various elements that make up the allure and grandiosity of a runway show. From the choice of the venue and curation of soundtracks to the model casting and guest list, months of ideation and thorough preparation go into the 15-minute unveiling of a brand's vision for the season.
With clothing being the focal point of every show, designers often incorporate some form of a theatrical element to their presentations. One of the most notable moments in fashion history would be Alexander McQueen's spring/summer 1999 show, when a pair of spray-painting robots adorned a white dress worn by supermodel Shalom Harlow. Designers have certainly tried to recreate the awe and wonder of show theatrics in recent years, with Coperni's spring/summer 2023 presentation seeing Bella Hadid standing motionless as spray-on fabric was applied on her body. These bouts of showmanship add a veil of mystery and allure to the garments, and evinces the artful mastery these houses possess.
